Recommendation Letter

Recommendation Letter Guidelines (Academic)

  • Explain your personal connection to the pupil. Give them a brief introduction and explain how long you've known them before getting into their skills and characteristics. Your connection gains credibility as a result.
  • Give particular instances of the student's aptitude and work ethic. Recommendations are important since they allow the reader to discover more about the student than just their accomplishments and test results. The reader might have a better picture of the student by recalling specific instances when they performed very well in a role or class.
  • Avoid using ambiguous language and expressions. Making this recipient stand out from the crowd is your aim. Steer clear of clichés and use meaningful examples and first-hand stories to highlight the student's qualities and skills.
  • Consider the particular job or institution. Students should concentrate on developing abilities related to engineering if they intend to attend an engineering-focused university.

Recommendation Letter Guidelines (Academic)

  • Don't undervalue yourself. The last thing you want in a letter of recommendation is modesty. Compile a list of pertinent abilities and credentials, then list as many as you can, supporting each with concrete instances.
  • Describe your relationship to the recommender. Writing from the perspective of your recommender might make this difficult, but it is crucial to include for credibility. Tell us about your connection and the duration of your time spent working or knowing each other.
  • Just use instances and abilities that are pertinent. As your recommender may only comment on abilities and traits they have seen in their professional environment, make sure your writing only covers topics they would be familiar with.
  • In the third person, write. Though it might seem apparent, keep in mind that you are writing from the perspective of your recommender. To be sure you did not make a mistake and write in the first person, carefully proofread. To look for significant changes in tone and style, it's also worth reading again.
